What is BitTorrent?
BitTorrent is a way to share files across the internet with other people. In reality, the word "BitTorrent" is the name of the protocol that is really just another fancy name for peer-to-peer file sharing.
A peer is simply a computer that has some of a shared file. The peer could be currently downloading the file, or stopped downloading for some reason.. There can be many peers that have this same file, and the more peers that are available for someone looking to download that file, the faster that file can be downloaded. Peers that have completed copies of the downloaded file, or in other words, 100% of the file, are called seeds. A higher number of seeds also ensures faster download speeds to the downloader because there are several computers for the file to be downloaded from.
